frequently asked questions
Do I have to use my personal health insurance?
No. Patients involved in a motor vehicle accident are typically entitled to have their medical bills paid for by their auto insurance policy. In fact, many private health policies will actually not cover claims that result from an auto accident. You should use your auto policy for your medical care, not your personal health insurance.
What if I don’t have health insurance?
That’s okay. Your medical care should be covered by your automobile insurance policy, or in some cases, may be covered by the policy of the driver that hit you, or even the policy of a spouse or relative.
What is Personal Injury Protection (often called PIP)?
Personal Injury Protection (or PIP) is a mandatory type of auto insurance that covers the costs of injuries and accidents up to a certain amount for two years after your accident. PIP is a no-fault insurance, so it covers you even if you’re at fault for the accident. Many states, including Oregon and Utah, require all policies to carry PIP.
What if I don’t have car insurance?
You may be covered under the insurance of the vehicle with whom you were involved in an accident, or another policy, such as your homeowner’s policy or even a spouse of a relative’s policy. A lawyer will be able to assist you.
What will I have to pay for my treatment?
All treatment will be covered by your insurance policy or your financial settlement. There are no copayments, coinsurance amounts, or deductibles. Compass Pain and Wellness will never balance-bill you for uncollected claims. We’re on your side.
What if I need more treatment than my PIP will cover?
If your medical bills exceed your personal injury protection coverage, or your treatment goes on for more than two years, your personal injury protection insurance will no longer pay your bills. At that point, you are personally responsible for ongoing medical expenses. However, a personal injury attorney can help represent you through this process and ensure you receive the maximum medical benefits available to you.
Do I need a lawyer?
The answer to this question depends on the individual circumstances of your case. You may require medical treatment over and above the policy limits of your coverage or be entitled to additional damages. A lawyer can answer these questions for you and assess your individual circumstances. Compass Pain and Wellness will work with them to ensure your medical needs are represented during your case.
